The Department of Zoology at Dolphin (PG) Institute of Biomedical & Natural Sciences successfully organized an Add-on Course on “Microtomy” from 04 May to 12 May 2026 in collaboration with Zoological Survey of India. The course was conducted with the objective of providing participants with both theoretical understanding and practical training in microtomy techniques and their applications in histology, tissue sectioning, and biological research.
The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from undergraduate and postgraduate students, research scholars, faculty members, and professionals, highlighting the growing interest in skill-based laboratory education and hands-on scientific training.
During the course, participants received extensive practical exposure to the operation and maintenance of microtomes, preparation of histological slides, tissue sectioning methods, and laboratory safety protocols. Expert sessions conducted by resource persons provided valuable insights into microscopic tissue preparation and its importance in biological and biomedical sciences.
The training program was designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical laboratory skills, enabling participants to develop competence in essential histological techniques widely used in zoological, biomedical, and research laboratories. Participants also had the opportunity to observe the histological sections of the slides prepared by them under an electron microscope at ZSI, Dehradun, which significantly enhanced their practical learning experience.
The course concluded successfully with a valedictory session organized at the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), Dehradun on 12 May 2026. During the session, eminent scientists from ZSI delivered informative lectures related to their areas of expertise and shared valuable scientific insights with the participants. Certificates were also distributed to acknowledge the successful completion of the training program.
The Department of Zoology expressed sincere gratitude to the collaborating institution, resource persons, and all participants for their active support and contribution in making the program highly informative and successful.
