Intellectual Property is a product of human’s intellect. Intellectual property is intangible property. Intellectual Property Rights are framed to safeguard the creators’ ownership on his/her creation by the government within the territorial limits. Intellectual property is divided into different categories for divergent creations like,
- Patents for the scientific inventions
- Copyrights for Literary and artistic works
- Trademarks for symbols, images, names used by different enterprises
- Industrial Designs for ornamental or aesthetic aspect of an article
- Trade Secrets for confidential information
- Geographical Indications for goods that have a specific geographical origin and possess
qualities
IP is an important aspect of our daily life. In every sphere of our life, we are surrounded by the innovations of human brain’s ingenuity which makes our life easier. An effective IPR regime provides innovation ecosystem for the researchers and scientists. It also promotes growth of an organization and the country itself. It helps in the protection of creators’ rights along with smooth technology transfer and international trade. IP awareness can make everyone mindful of their rights and this can help the scientific community in reaping rewards for their IP, which will stimulate creativity and economic growth in the country. Intellectual Property Rights Cell has been established at the Dolphin PG Institute of Biomedical & Natural Sciences, Dehradun and it is sponsored by Uttarakhand Council for Science & Technology (UCOST)

- To create an awareness about IPR for faculty members and students
- To conduct workshops, seminars and training course on IPR
- To disseminate knowledge on patents, patent regime in India
- To impart training on future endeavors regarding patent filing processes
- To encourage faculty members and scholars to go for patentable works
