M.Sc. Microbiology is a two-year intensive postgraduate course that immerses the students in the world of microorganisms: bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa. The course is specifically aimed at offering comprehensive knowledge in microbial physiology, genetics, and taxonomy, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical skills for careers in research, healthcare, and industry. First-year studies lay the foundation in core subjects that include general microbiology, biological techniques, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, agriculture microbiology, environment microbiology, and immunology within the fundamental and applied microbiological sciences. In the second year, the program covers advanced topics: industrial microbiology and medical microbiology. It will be taught alongside the elective modules selected according to individual interests, microbial product formulation, sales, marketing, and distribution of microbial products, together with research methods. The research project forms a substantial part of the program, where students conduct original research under supervision and produce a dissertation demonstrating that they can apply knowledge and skills. Assessment will be multifaceted and include examinations, laboratory reports, assignments, seminars, and the final dissertation, all targeted at ascertaining student mastery of concepts and techniques in microbiology. Students are thus prepared for professional careers in research and development, health care, industry, education, and, by making valuable contributions in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and environmental science.

Academics : The students are eligible for National Eligibility Test for lecturer ship (CSIR-JRF- LS).Teaching positions are available for teaching UG & PG courses in Medical, Dental, Veterinary colleges, University, institutes and not-for-profit research center. They can also get a teaching job in schools as Microbiology has also been introduced as a subject in 10+2 by CBSE.
Industry : Tremendous employment opportunities are in different industries such as cosmetics, breweries, food, dairy, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, vaccines and oil. They may be involved in quality management, quality control, research, and product development in industries. Avon Cosmetics, Nestle, Pepsi, Ranbaxy, Cadila, ONGC are some of the organizations.
Health Care : The health care industry provides numerous opportunities for microbiologists working in areas of management, diagnostics, and quality control in Diagnostic Laboratories, medical institutes and hospitals.
Legal : Microbiologists can also find a position in legal firms which deal with patent filing, biological technology transfer and Intellectual property rights.
Government Jobs : Microbiologist may be placed in government services as a food inspector, drug officer, and microbiologists in DRDO, FCI, Railways, and Quarantine Centers. Microbiologists are hired by Local, State and Central Government.
Research and Development : After completing the course, one can join R&D dept. of respected Microbiology and Biotech companies such as Panacea Biotech, Serum Institute, Zydus Cadila. You can also join as Research assistant in industrial, government, university, or medical institutes. Today microbiologists are also required in top organizations like NASA for identification of any life form for their various missions like the recent Mars curiosity mission and many more.
