An educational trip to the Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun, was successfully organized on April 24, 2026, for 60 students from B.Sc. Biotechnology, Microbiology, Zoology, and M.Sc. Biotechnology programs of Dolphin PG Institute of Biomedical and Natural Sciences. The visit was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Shalini Singh and Dr. Sachin Singh from the Department of Biotechnology.
The primary aim of the visit was to provide students with hands-on exposure to advanced research techniques and practical applications in biotechnology and forestry sciences. The program included two major sessions conducted in specialized laboratories: the Genetic and Tree Improvement Division and the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory.
During the session at the Genetic and Tree Improvement Division, students gained practical insights into essential molecular biology techniques such as DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). They also learned about genetic analysis, molecular markers, and their significance in tree improvement and conservation programs. The session helped students understand real-time laboratory procedures and the role of biotechnology in environmental sustainability.
In the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, students explored in vitro propagation techniques with a detailed demonstration on bamboo micropropagation. The session covered key stages including explant preparation, sterilization, culture initiation, multiplication, and acclimatization. This provided valuable knowledge about plant conservation, large-scale propagation, and sustainable forestry practices.
The visit proved to be highly beneficial in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Interaction with experienced researchers and exposure to advanced laboratory infrastructure enriched the students’ academic understanding and professional outlook.
